Welcoming Silvia Basanta to the KLI

We are very happy to welcome our new Post-doc Fellow Silvia Basanta to the KLI. Silvia completed her PhD under the guidance of Prof. Mihaela Pavlicev, and has recently been awarded a doctoral degree from the University of Vienna for her thesis titled, “The evolution of signalling in mammalian pregnancy”. With a prior background in both biology and philosophy, Silvia has maintained a collaboration with the Department of Logic and Philosophy of Science at the Complutense University of Madrid. In particular, she worked with Laura Nuño de la Rosa on the ways in which the female body has been portrayed in contemporary evolutionary biology.

At the KLI, Sivia’s postdoc project titled, “Apollonian Eros: revisiting sexuality and evolutionary thought in Vienna” aims to investigate the reception and nature of evolutionary thought at the turn of the century in Vienna by using sexual science as a case study.

Apart from her research, Silvia enjoys ballet, urban and Latino dance.

Here’s wishing Silvia a warm welcome a fruitful time at the KLI.
