Topic description / abstract:
Cognostics is a novel, highly interdisciplinary field of basic and applied research. Its the goal to better understand how the human brain copes with complexity and to develop methodolgies and tools that can support human cognition regarding this rapidly expanding challenge. The introduction will consist of a brief sketch of the conceptual foundations of this novel field and some practical examples for the application of its findings.
Biographical note:
Albrecht v. Müller is director of the interdisciplinary Parmenides Center for the Study of Thinking and he teaches philosophy at the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich (LMU). His two main fields of interest are the concept of time and the phenomenon of thinking. In order to better support complex thinking and decision making processes, von Müller developed the visual reasoning methodology “Eidos” with which he served as scientific advisor to several governments and international institutions.
