Carla Feliciano

Carla Feliciano is a final-year doctoral student in History and Philosophy of Science at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL), where she also teaches bioethics as an invited professor, focusing on topics related to human health. With a background in biomedical sciences, specialising in molecular biology, she is currently conducting doctoral research that interconnects philosophy of science, immunology, and bioethics, focusing on the material bases and philosophical conceptualisations of immune memory and diachronic immune identity. During her research stay at KLI, she explores how the ‘non-self theory’ and the ‘danger theory’ of immunity have changed our ontological assumptions about immunity, and to what extent these changes have (or have not) resulted from pragmatic decisions.

Outside academia, she has practised yoga for many years, reads psychological fiction and lyric prose, and listens to jazz, with a particular fondness for the tenor saxophone, which she learned to play; however, she prefers to hear it played well.
