The aim of this project is to develop a theoretical model to explain the possible origins of a basic cluster of cognitive capacities and skills involved in music. The main hypothesis is that the components of this cognitive cluster constituted by patterns of sound production and sound discrimination,motor control, rhythmic body motions, imitation, and collective synchronization (among others), also enabled the consolidation of a wide range of cultural practices and the complexification of our sociality.
