Johannes Fritz

After apprenticeships as businessman and game ward in Tyrol (1983-1990), Johannes FRITZ studied zoology at the universities of Innsbruck and Vienna, where he also took courses in ethology and wildlife biology at the universities of Veterinary Medicine and of Agriculture (1988-1996). He joined the Grünau field station in 1994 to study learning through imitation in hand-raised, free-living ravens (MA, 1995) and, subsequently, social learning and the formation of traditions in greylag geese (PhD, 2000). Dr. FRITZ is currently investigating the social conditions and ecological constraints of social learning in geese and ravens as a postdoc at Grünau.
