Many activities of the KLI exceed the scientific core agenda and are intended to engage with either the public or with alumni and friends of the KLI. Some representative acitivities are listed here.
Topic description / abstract:
Scientists who decide to stay in science or research after completing their doctorate will face a wide range of career options: PostDoc researcher, junior professors, visiting fellows, junior research group leaders are possible career steps which can be funded by public and private sources. In her presentation Anke Zerm offers information on selected German and EU funding schemes for individual reseachers: general programme feature, requirements, evaluation criteria, success rates, experiences, advice structures. Additionally there will be guidance on how to reflect on the next steps in the individual career. Using the example of Germany, framework conditions will be highlighted which play an important role besides particular funding programme requirements: German science system, working conditions, institutional characteristics. The information given will be embedded in a general context in order to enable the international audience to plan further steps in the own country or abroad.
Anke Zerm, Head of Research Service, Leuphana University Lueneburg, Germany is a senior professional with broad expertise in funding and governance issues. Prior to her current position she worked several years as EU Advisor and was deeply involved in Leuphana´s profound institutional and academic reform process. Before joining the university management Anke worked as a scientist. She holds a master degree in Economics.
Anke Zerm was founding board member of the German Network of Research Managers and Administrators and is still associated with networks on national and international level as expert (e.g. EUA, German Council of Science and Humanities, German Rectors` Conference).
Leuphana´s Research Service provides differentiated administrative and managerial services for a range of target groups – from early career researchers to the well-established top performer. The team offers specific guidance on the whole grant funding cycle (pre-award and post-award) and cooperates with other units on the development of early career researchers.
