KLI postdoctoral fellow Barbara Fischer´s work featured in the Austrian newspaper "Der Standard." Barbara explains why child birth is so difficult in humans and discusses evolutionary constraints responsible for it. The mothers´ pelvis sizes have evolved to become smaller because of the entailments of the upright walk, whereas the babies´ heads have become larger during the cause of evolution due to the increase in human brain volume. These diametrically opposed exigencies have resulted in an obstetric dilemma.
